It
was about 7:30 in the morning. The ferryboat from Vallejo had
just
docked at the San Francisco Ferry terminal. He needed to get
his
timing right. She walks twice his pace and doesn't really
look
back. He's got to get ahead of her.
He
did it. He's a
couple of steps from the double glass doors when he sees her
reflection. She's just a few steps behind. He opens
the
door for her, then flashes a big charming smile...
Yes,
that's how it all started. We took the same ferry going to
work, back when we were still working in San Francisco.
Technically, we met on the boat. But I guess you can say that
our
relationship blossomed during our walks from the ferry building to the
corner of Fremont and Market streets, the 10-15 minutes spent having
coffee or tea at Tully's, and of course, the 1-3 hour talks on the
phone.
That
was three years ago. Now, neither of us work in San
Francisco, we still have nightly talks on the phone and we are looking
forward to the rest of our lives.
